Let's Fix: Day and Night Cycle

The day and night cycle in the main series game was introduced in Generation II, in Pokémon Gold and Silver. With that implementation, some Pokémon can be seen only in the day, while some are available at night. Some of the new Pokémon, like Hoothoot and Spinarak, and some Generation I Pokémon, like Zubat and Oddish, can only be seen in the night. They have daytime counterparts, with Hoothoot being Pidgey and Spinarak being Ledyba, and so on.

Also, certain Pokémon are only able to evolve on certain times of the day. Eevee, for example, evolves into Espeon during the day, and Umbreon during the night. Happiny can only evolve into Chansey during the day, and Gligar can only evolve into Gliscor during the night. How does this issue fix Pokémon GO?

When Generation II comes to Pokémon GO (and the datamined information shows it is on the horizon), there would be additional 100 Pokémon in the Pokédex. With some Pokémon being hard to find as it is, adding more will make them more uncommon. Implementing the same time-based spawning can be a fix to that. Pokémon like Rattata, Clefairy, Zubat, Oddish, Meowth, and Wooper can be assigned to the night time spawn, and while their counterparts can be Sentret, Jigglypuff, Spearow, Hoppip, Teddiursa, and Marill. Most Ghost and Dark types will spawn regularly at night.

One issue with this is that it encourages people to go out at night because these Pokémon only spawns at that time, making it a security risk. To combat this, when night comes, most spawn points should only spawn near Pokéstops and Gyms, and other spawn points shouldn't spawn Pokémon regularly.

Regarding evolution, it is hard to implement that time-based rule on Pokémon like Happiny and Gligar, but on Eevee, that would be easy. Once it is day, Eevee would evolve into Espeon, otherwise, it would be Umbreon. I disagree with the notion that the Buddy System should be like the Frienship System in the main series game. I say just ignore the Friendship rule entirely, and make Eevee evolve into Espeon during the day and Umbreon during the night. You might think about how it would conflict the Nickname Method in evolving Eeevee. It's easy to just put priority on nicknames before the time of day. For example, Eevee named Sparky would evolve into Jolteon regardless of what time it is.

I also would like to add the permanence of the Nickname Method itself. It is very frustrating to find an Eevee with good IVs and then evolve into an evolution you don't want. It wastes time and candies. I would probably add upon this topic on another post, so I'll leave this point for now.

One advantage of having this implementation of the day and night cycle is that it makes the game feel real. Finding Zubat in high noon is not realistic, and should Generation II be released, you'll see Pokémon that are clearly designed for the day and night cycle like Hoothoot and Murkrow.

This implementation will really make you feel like it's not a game. "Imagine Pokémon in the real world." That is the first line in the app's trailer. With this implementation, it makes it easier to do so.
